Lillie Marlene was built in 1941. The name was chosen as a reflection of your hostess Marlene’s German heritage. The song, popular during World War I and World War II, was also the inspiration for her first name—Lillie was already taken by her maternal grandmother. The sheet music for the song can be found on the antique pump organ in the living room. The lamplight at the curb was a “must” for a property named Lillie Marlene.

Only three blocks from Main Street, Lillie Marlene is a perfect place to explore Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country. Lillie Marlene is truly an endeavor of the heart fill with warm previous memories of family, good times, and in the German and Czech tradition, good food!

You will not find feathers or goose down and the bed pillows are synthetic filled. The bed linen is dried in the sunshine, as long as it is not pollen season. The furnishings are a mix of family heirlooms, antique shop treasures and pieces gathered from friends and family. The antique pump organ belonged to Marlene’s grandfather who was an avid musician performing with a number of early Czech bands and orchestras in Texas. The antique Singer sewing machine belonged to Pat’s grandmother. Soft green, pastels and pristine white woodwork provide a calming environment reminiscent of an earlier time.
